Reply from Hasbro (section)

"Thank you for your enquiry to use My Little Pony Friendship is Magic brand to create a comic. Unfortunately, permission cannot be granted for your request as we already have licensees who produce My Little Pony Magazines.

We receive a huge number of requests on a daily basis and in order to protect our intellectual property such as copyrights and trademarks, we are simply unable to grant the vast majority of requests. I'm sorry we cannot accommodate you in this matter.

We appreciate your interest in Hasbro's My Little Pony line and hope you continue to enjoy our products."

I actually liked the way they reply so promptly even though the answer was no. But well, it seems my impulsive fan-comic ends here! It's too bad we are living in a PERMISSION CULTURE. Now I have a clearer picture of the issues that Lawrence Lessig's "Free Culture [link] " was talking about.

I will focus my energy on making my original projects, but expect to see some MLPFIM fanarts from time to time. Regardless of being officially made into a Alicorn princess, my Twilight Sparkle will always be the same Unicorn girl living in Ponyville, together with her best friends. Friendship is still Magic! We are still on a good ending route! ^^

Decision (UPDATED)
  • DRAW IT! (If Hasbro says yes)
  • OFFICIAL STYLE! (My style is too costly)
  • OFFICIAL NAMES!
  • RATED G!
  • FREE! (You know me)

Anthro design of the involved characters will still be made and upload here. I know you are curious about them. :b Well...it's up to Hasbro now.

I like MLPFIM!

Being a fan of MLPFIM, though not really hardcore, I liked this cartoon enough to draw some fanarts.

A Possible Comic

After watching the final episode of Season 3, "Magical Mystery Cure", I would like to say that I have my own thought. 3 days later I wrote a story sketch for an alternative ending, constructed it into a shooting script, and fit those shots into B5 paper. The result is a 90 pages comic project. Anyone who know me well should expect this possible comic be release freely online if I can finish it.

However, the fate of a certain fan-made MLPFIM game scared me, making me to consider alternative names and appearances for the characters. Drawing 90 pages of full color comic is a enormous amount of work, not to mention that Princess Celestia's glorious gradient mane has a major cost impact XD. My friend totem.v suggested me to give up the silly idea and focus on my own stuff. But that's the story I really want to tell, and I don't see a place in my own projects where this story can ever fit. Now I'm undergoing total inner conflict. -_-

Any thoughts, my friends?

:iconsomniumastrum: Updated: <- Laura kindly provided me relative information and I've sent Hasbro a request letter on using its copyright content. Thank you!

Heyy, i'm a big fan of yours ever since I saw you from a DD on SYNC(back when you were still extvia); I used to use gimp too and I thought it was amazing what you could do with it!
I'm trying to use gimp again, but it seems so laggy
As a GIMP user, do you have any solutions? Sorry, I know you're really busy and not a forum, but I've looked everywhere and nothing seems to make it better xDD;;
Thank you
You are always one of my idols!

Hi, Pepperido

Thank you! And sorry to hear that GIMP is not working properly for you. Honestly, the information you had provided is not enough for me to find a specific solution, but I will try to give some suggestion.

First of all, are you running the newest version of GIMP? In GIMP 2.8.4, the developers worked on several bugs that once impacted GIMP's performance, and I saw improvement.

You may also want to go GIMP menu > Edit > Preferences > Image Windows > Mouse Pointers > to uncheck “Show brush outline” to alleviate sluggish brush cursor.

GIMP is not a native MS Windows or an Apple OS X application. So if you are running GIMP on one of those platforms, problem would occur sometimes and become be very difficult to resolve. I recommend using GIMP on a GNU/Linux operation system, notably Ubuntu [link] .

The impact on GIMP's performance is often related to CPU (and probably GIMP's own source code, as well). If you are running a 32bit operating system, you must be running a 32bit version of GIMP, too. Unfortunately, none of GIMP's newly developed optimizations for modern CPUs would work with a 32bit environment (unless you build optimized binaries for your own computer), the result would be slower performance compared to the 64bit version.

As a result, GIMP works best on a 64bit GNU/Linux system. I'm using GIMP on Ubuntu 13.04 64bit on my laptop and I don't see any significant slow down with this configuration.

At the end, I must clarify that I'm not using GIMP for digital painting purpose anymore. It has been a year since I switched to Krita [link] , which is also a free and opensource digital painting application. But I'm still using GIMP as my primary tool for typography, which it does pretty well!

Good luck fellow free artsit!
