Who's Oswald? Unless being a zealous classical cartoon fan, you may not recognize Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, who is wielding a pair of distinctive Keyblades in this picure. Neither did I before the game “Epic Mickey”. Speak of Mickey Mouse, however, few people on earth would fail to recognize the timeless superstar created by Mr. Walt Disney. Despite their differed destinies , Oswald and Mickey are actually “brothers by blood”, for the fact that Mr.Disney created Mickey after losing his copyright on Oswald to Universal. The separation and recreation coincidentally resembles Dr. Tenma and Toby's story from Mr. Osamu Tezuka's “Astro Boy”. Unlike the doctor who accomplished reunion with his lost child in the movie, however, Old Disney couldn't live so long to welcome Oswald's returning to Disney Inc. in 2006, creating even more sentimental resonance.
The Game “Epic Mickey” Oswald's revival performance took place in Epic Mickey on Wii [link] as a role-playing & platforming game. Lured by its promising in-game liberty, I pick up the dusty wiimote to enjoy a cartoon-ish “Fallout 3” without much expectation on its story writing. To my surprise, however, the darkness and depth in the setting and story turned out to be wonderfully written and ingeniously directed, which gradually grabbed my heart, led it into the magical adventure of Mickey and his reunion with his lost brother. Combined with the solid gaming experience, Epic Mickey successfully earned my favor and firmly branded Oswald's character into my memory.
Oswald's Kingdom Hearts Costume Resembling Roxas to Sora, Oswald would made a perfect appearance in Kingdom Hearts world as the Nobody of King Mickey, while proclaiming himself "the King of Wasteland", either as a friend or a foe. Driving by my sudden inspiration, I designed Oswald's would-be be Kingdom Hearts costume as a dual keyblades wielder, with his primary Keyblade (with The King of Wasteland Chain) in his left hand and the secondary Keybalde (with Epic Mickey Chain) in another which projects paint and thinner that creates or erases objects from the world, just as Mickey did in Epic Mickey. Hope you enjoy my share of love to Oswald!
First off, I'd like to say that this is probably the best Kingdom-Hearts picture that I have ever seen. The entire thing has both originality in idea while still keeping the traditional KH style. Please don't ask how you pulled that off, because I don't know. The three-color idea is pretty ingenious, and really fits this character. Overall, this picture is exceedingly well drawn.
Now on to the less fun stuf: Your Keyblade originality needs a little work. I realize that Keyblade are hard to pull out of one's a**, but with the quality of this drawing, I think you could have pulled off 2 MUCH better keyblades than those. Any player of this series should recognize the Destiny's Bond (Kairi's Key) and the Lost Memory (Ventus' Key at the end of Birth By Sleep) are combined in Oswald's right hand, and even a few people who don't play the games will recognize Sora's key (the Kingdom Key) in Oswald's left hand. Given the uniquness of the character that is Oswald, He deserves to have his own Keyblade. Why am I making a big deal out of this? In a Kingdom Hearts drawing, the Keyblades are Iconic, expected, and give recognizability. If Os's Key isn't original, It will be mistaken for another's, or (more likely) give a link to characters that Os shouldn't be linked with. For example, by putting Kairi's and Ventus's Keys in his hand, you've said the Os is a. They were significant figure's in Os's life, or b. Os resembles them in some way. Sora's Key in his left hand yields the same response.
Recap: Great drawing, Very original except for the focus of nearly every KH drawing.
I absolutely adore this, but sadly being poor, and actually very young, I did not get to see oswald in original form or in Epic Mickey. Based on what I've seen and heard about him, I think the design fits well, and the keyblades themselves are very original. I do think the kingdom key could have been altered a bit more though, and the right keyblade could use a name, like wasted comet or trashy star. All in all this is very enjoyable, and fans of both disney and KH should be able to enjoy this, young or old, good job sir or madam, on a beautiful pice that both the eye and mind can enjoy.
This is totally awesome! Oswald in Kingdom Hearts is something that really needs to happen one way or the other in Kingdom Hearts 3 when it finally comes out!
