Why did I posted this journal?

It happened when I discovered :iconroksanath: RoksanaTH used :iconnapkit: Napkit's work as one of her picture's background. Napkit did not give her the permission and no credit was given.

I was shocked because I was watching 2 artists, and the infringer draws pretty nice pictures and had already been popular enough to go to the DA frontpage. I also shocked to know some comments telling her the problem in a polite way got ignored or hidden.

Napkit and I reported the problem to DA. However, to our surprise, my report had never been replied and Napkit's report had been even rejected. I'm a emotional guy. I decided to write a journal about it.

Record

1: A screenshot [link] comparison was posted.
2: The infringing artwork was edited.
3: I updated my journal about the editing.
4: Apology was posted [link] .
5: People found another infringing artwork [link]
6: 2 infringing artworks were removed.
7: The apology was removed.

Lessons to learn

Please do NOT
1. Use a copyrighted artwork to make derivative work without permission.
2. Use an artwork licensed under Creative Commons 3.0 by-nc-nd [link] to make derivative work.
3. Give no credit to the original artist while using their works.
4. Ignore or hide comments that point out the problem politely.
5. Edit afterward after being caught before apologize.
6. Keep an infringing artwork in the gallery unless being caught, while another piece has been already discovered and apology is posted.
7. Withdraw an apology afterward.
8. Play as nothing had ever happened after removed everything.

Please give her a chance.

After I posted the journal, it caused unexpected flame on her homepage, which made me feel uncomfortable. She was wrong but we all make mistakes and feel weak. I think it's good at least if she learned her lesson. Please don't destroy her life and give her a chance.

My apology

I'm a emotional guy, I posted the journal because I was really upset. I did what I thought was right, but I realized later that I had caused unnecessary flame in the community. I played a role that I was not authorized to. I'm responsible for the making many people feel bad. I'm very sorry! I've done a horrible thing!

I also posted a journal to tell the removal of the apology (deleted immediately after posting) when I came to know what's going on. I'm very sorry too. As a Wikipedian it was a shame to forget the principle of "Assume good faith" [link] ! I must thank the people who reminded me of this.

There are things that cannot be changed in a good way by violence. We are in the same community, like a family. Maybe things can be better with more tolerance.

Thank you for reading.

I'm shocked. I can see they are both good artists, but shocked to see this one awesome artist who just decided, "I can't do this, lemme just borrow something to make the background not so empty." I know that many times, I'm tempted to just copy and paste and just hand it in and I'm sure many artists had went through this kind of temptation at least once in their lifetime. I just hope we can help educate other artists the temptations and how to resist them.

By reading this, I learned that you're a wonderful person : 3

I am glad she removed the works, even if deviantArt rejected it (although I am very unhappy with deviantArt that they did reject it)
In the past, I reported obviously traced artwork to dA (imitating everything in the image) but they didn't remove it and that really disappointed me

I hope :iconroksanath: learned her lesson, she's a skilled artist, with wonderful ability, she shouldn't ruin her artwork with something like that

If they're gonna spend all that time copy, pasting and rotating they could just try and draw it themselves.. If I like how someone draws something I might try imitating it to get the same effect, but they should know better than to directly copy it..

There is no "evil" here.
I think you did the right thing... and everyone learn from it.

That's not the first time I've seen that background from the second pic. Someone else used it too. [link]

It makes me angry to hear what's happened to napkit's work - especially without an apology from this theif. I just can't accept the idea people are bringing up about it being 'ok' to reference a background by pasting it directly onto an artwork and painting over bits of it =_= True referencing would have been to create a background from scratch and to acknolwedge the reference.

It wasn't right for her to borrow art and leave the owner uncredited, because art is part originality too.

But other people getting mad and using strong language on her was and is inevitable. All internet sites are more prone to flaming and argument than the real world because users can do/say anything and not feel any physical and immediate reprimand which is easier to deal with.

What she did was wrong and i hope she learned her lesson but those who left angry comments on her home page should also apologize, because ganging up on someone when they've already apologized is cowardly especially when you've got a virtual crowd backing you up :banned:

Hey. I know you say to let it go, but that's like giving up the fight against the wrong. I sure as hell won't let this..fake bastard walk away.

I need to find more images she took. Do you have any idea where I may need to look for them?

Adds even more suspicions to our minds. I know she isn't remorseful to shit. I will find more images she took and have them all removed.
